Postpartum & Infant Feeding Support

Feeding support isn't only for breastfeeding families.

Our IBCLCs work with families who are breastfeeding, exclusively pumping, bottle-feeding breast milk, formula feeding, combination feeding, or transitioning from one feeding method to another.

You don't need to know exactly what kind of appointment you need before you come. We'll look at the whole feeding picture and help you determine what is working, what isn't, and what may make feeding easier for you and your baby.

We can help with:

  • Difficulty latching or staying latched

  • Painful breastfeeding or nipple trauma

  • Low milk supply or concerns about milk production

  • Oversupply or fast flow

  • Slow or inadequate infant weight gain

  • Weighted feeds and milk-transfer assessment

  • Babies who feed very frequently or for long periods

  • Bottle refusal

  • Difficulty transitioning between breast and bottle

  • Clicking, leaking, coughing, choking, or struggling during feeds

  • Finding an appropriate bottle, nipple flow, and feeding position

  • Oral motor and feeding function

  • Tongue- or lip-tie concerns

  • Pump selection and troubleshooting

  • Flange sizing

  • Developing a pumping schedule

  • Increasing, maintaining, or decreasing milk production

  • Exclusive pumping

  • Supplementation

  • Combination feeding

  • Formula feeding and bottle-feeding support

  • Returning to work

  • Inducing Lactation/Relactation

  • Weaning

  • And many other infant-feeding concerns

Feeding should work for your baby — and for you.

Initial Feeding Consultation

90–120 minutes

You do not need to be directly breastfeeding to work with an IBCLC.

Your initial visit gives us time to understand the full picture — your baby, your feeding experience, what’s working, what feels challenging, and what you hope to achieve.

Depending on your concerns and how your baby is fed, your consultation may include:

  • Detailed pregnancy, birth, health, and feeding history

  • Infant weight and growth assessment

  • Observation of breastfeeding and/or bottle-feeding

  • Weighted feeding when appropriate

  • Latch and positioning assessment

  • Bottle and nipple-flow assessment

  • Oral motor functional and structural evaluation

  • Breast and nipple assessment when indicated

  • Pump assessment and flange fitting

  • Milk-supply evaluation

  • Supplementation guidance

  • An individualized feeding plan based on your family's goals

We'll explain what we're seeing as we go and work with you to create a plan that feels manageable for your family.

Follow-Up Consultation

Approximately 60 minutes

Follow-up visits allow us to assess progress, troubleshoot new challenges, re-evaluate feeding and oral function when needed, monitor weight and milk transfer, and adjust your feeding plan as your baby grows and your needs change.

Pumping Consultations

Pumping support can include:

  • Pump selection and settings

  • Flange fitting

  • Establishing or increasing milk production

  • Maintaining supply

  • Exclusive pumping

  • Creating a realistic pumping schedule

  • Troubleshooting pain or poor milk removal

  • Preparing to return to work

  • Reducing pumping or weaning

For families whose primary need is pumping support rather than a full infant-feeding assessment, a shorter pumping consultation may be appropriate.

Available in person or via telehealth when appropriate. Home visits are available during the early postpartum period and include an additional travel fee.
